Children’s Dentistry

As parents ourselves, we understand the importance of the dental and general health of our children and the need to ensure their visits to the dentist are a positive, enjoyable experience, right from the start of their lives.

That’s why we have given great thought to the patient experience from not only an adult’s point of view, but also a childs.

We offer for our younger patients a dedicated toy box and children’s books in the waiting room, a selection of children’s music to choose from while they ‘ride in the chair’ and more often than not free gifts to reward them
for their bravery as they depart.

The last thing we want afterall is them to have a negative perception of ‘going to the dentist’.

We take the time to inform them of any procedure we will be performing and keep the appointment time to a minimum.

FAQs related to children’s dental care

Q. What age should I bring my child to see the dentist?

We like to start seeing children from the age of 2. Even to come and have a ride in the chair!

Q. How often should a child visit the dentist?

We recommend children visit us every 6 months so we can ensure they are maintaining their teeth correctly from a young age, can pick up on any issues before they develop too far and so children get used to the experience of visiting the dentist.

Q. How should I prepare my child for a dental visit?

Don’t talk about the details of the proposed treatment i.e. needles, fillings etc. The more information children have,
the more they worry. We recommend you keep the information you give them to a minimum. We will take the time and care to inform them using our years of experience of dealing with children about the consult or treatment, on arrival.

Q. Do you offer children’s visits at all times?

Morning visits are preferred as we have found the child is more alert and therefore more cooperative at this time of the day. It also minimises the chance of them thinking about the imminent dentist visit throughout the day.

Q. How long will a children’s visit take?

We realise the attention span of a child is short therefore we try to keep children’s appointments to a minimum.
If the procedure required is longer than 15 – 30 minutes, we may ask you to return for a second visit to ensure they are cooperative and enjoy the experience of visiting the dentist.
